Una caña para el niño, un coñac para el conductor

Memoria de la España de los sesenta: de cuando la publicidad recomendaba el consumo de bebidas alcohólicas para menores y automovilistas

omo decía aquel, España ha cambiado tanto que, para nuestra generación, el hijo del Kirk Duglas que subyugaba a nuestros padres es Maiquel Daglas. Pues también hubo un tiempo -algo inocente, encaminado hacia una prosperidad razonable, y muy español- en el que las marcas de cerveza incitaban a los padres a darles cerveza a los hijos, a los conductores se les invitaba a conducir con una copa de coñac puesta y a los fumadores a curar su enfisema pulmonar fumando cigarrillos. La vida misma. En pleno auge del Health food, alguien diría hoy que aquello era una distopía social. Puede ser, pero mirarlo con los ojos de hoy resulta un esfuerzo tan vano como tratar de entender por qué hasta 1975 las españolas no podían abrir una cuenta corriente sin permiso del marido. Una apertura, que por cierto, permitió al banco de Bilbao adoptar el eslogan de «El banco de la mujer» para captar sus incipientes cuentas de ahorro.

Las marcas de cerveza siempre estuvieron muy imbricadas en las ciudades: además de constituir una especie de orgullo local, empleaban a cientos de personas en sus fábricas y ejercían de grandes mecenas para actividades culturales, deportivas y sociales. Su trascendencia era mucho más profunda que el de un mero registro comercial. Aún hoy, el consumo mantiene constantes regionales -más que locales- pero las dos o tres marcas más relevantes se extienden ya por toda España. En aquellos sesenta, con estos antecedentes, no resultaba extraño que aquel elixir de cebada fuera recomendado para los menores. Los del baby boom y sus estertores fuimos adiestrados en el arte de empinar el codo de forma prematura con el Kinito de Kina San Clemente o la Quina santa Catalina, que llegaban a anunciarse como vinos medicinales. Incluso para abrir el apetito éramos obsequiados maternalmente con un candié – yema de huevo, azúcar y su chorrito de brandy- como remedio casero, y supuestamente infalible, para los catarros importantes. Igual el resfriado no se iba, pero dormíamos como angelitos.

 

 

«Familia grande, botella grande», rezaba la publicidad de El Águila: madre e hija sonrerían ante uno de los primeros ejemplares de la litrona ibérica. «Mamá siempre lleva a casa Cruzcampo«, titula uno de sus incunables la cerveza de origen sevillano mientras dos niños y dos niñas -aquellas familias numerosas….- juguetean con una botella de la marca. «Dele usted cerveza San Miguel «. Así animaban desde la competencia al consumo infantil: en el dibujo, papá y mamá, con estética de Mad Men a la española, sirven un generoso vaso de cerveza a su hijo con evidente cara de felicidad. Eran los sesenta. Una época pelín cándida y yeyé. Aún en plena dictadura, quedaban atrás los desgarros más negros de la guerra civil. La llegada de turistas extranjeros a las costas españolas trajeron aparejadas nuevas costumbres e introdujeron en el circuito cerebral de los españoles el anhelo de relajar las costumbres impuestas por la férrea moral católica del régimen, que no andaba contento con esa sociedad que se desmelenaba moderadamente. Tanto, que utilizaba el NODO para expresar su rechazo a la llegada de The Beatles y trataba de minimizar su éxito entre los españoles. Es aquella una década aspiracional y el alcohol aún no es un enemigo a batir. Las marcas, ni la sociedad en general, tienen aún estudios exhaustivos sobre la incidencia del alcohol en la salud. Todo fluye de forma natural. La experta en salud Itziar Díez Hernández destaca en su informe «La influencia del Alcohol en la Sociedad» cómo ha estado presente en nuestras sociedades desde el mesolítico con la aparición de la cerámica, que permite hacer la fermentación alcohólica. El alcohol y el vino tuvieron deidades en las civilizaciones antiguas: Dionisos (Grecia) y Baco (Roma) y, en definitiva, siempre fue un elemento presente en nuestro día a día, cuyo consumo se dispara en España en la década de los sesenta: » Aumentó influido por la economía, la política, los movimientos migratorios y las tensiones que surgieron. Ya en esta época se puede hablar de una institucionalización del alcoholismo», explica Díez Hernández.

La publicidad de la época no se deja atrás otros iconos relevantes: los coches -el placer de conducir: esa aspiración creciente- y el deporte; y dos clásicos funestos de aquella España: el machismo y el tabaco. Por más que se vea siempre sorprende el anuncio de coñac 103 de Barbadillo: «Automovilista, antes de emprender un viaje beba una copa de coñac 103. No más». Y, por supuesto, hay todo un atlas del machismo más rancio hecho anuncio. Incluyendo su exclusión como bebedoras , lo que suponía renunciar al 50% de los posibles consumidores, ya que los códigos morales de la época querían a la mujer sobria. La mujer, feliz atada a la lavadora, pero es es otra historia.

Obviamente, hoy todo ha cambiado. Las normas son severas al respecto. La publicidad es restrictiva respecto a los menores, pero también para los adultos. La Alianza Europea por la Salud Pública, que agrupa a centenares de organizaciones relacionadas con la salud, llevan años pidiendo prohibiciones estrictas. Consideran que la publicidad aumenta la posibilidad de que los menores empiecen a beber antes y calculan que el fin de la publicidad relacionada con el alcohol disminuiría al menos el 5% de las patologías relacionadas con este hábito. Las propias empresas han asumido su responsabilidad social en este ámbito y la sociedad es consciente de lo que se juega.

Pasaron los años y en 1985 la DGT lo rompió todo con un innovador anuncio de Steve Wonder, el cantante ciego de Michigan, recomendando el célebre «si bebes no conduzcas». Después llegaron las campañas duras y directas sobre los efectos dramáticos del alcohol y la conducción. Y así hasta alcanzar la categoría de arte con el anuncio de cada año de Estrella Damm, que no invita a beber cerveza, sino a consumir un estilo de vida mediterráneo que conduce a la felicidad y posiblemente a la cerveza. Muy lejos queda la sensibilidad de Michel Jenner o la dirección de Amenábar de aquel guardia de tráfico de 1957 que recomendaba a los conductores en un anuncio de coñac Decano tomase un copazo para frenar la gripe.

    Yo soy de la quinta del 67 y lo que cuentas lo he vivido muy de cerca, mi padre trabajando en una fábrica de cerveza hacia qué se normalizase su consumo, aunque bien es verdad, que a nosotros, sus hijo, nunca nos la daba..
    Tampoco la Quina ni el “candie”pero cuando me dolía la muela me decía mi madre que me enjuagara con un trago de coñac.
    La cultura del alcohol era sinónimo de felicidad e incluso medicinal.
    Hoy en día como no voy a beber!!!

    Y qué decir del «mesturado» de anís y coñac que les daban a las mujeres de cualquier edad para pasar los dolores de la menstruación. Que digo yo que sería la cosa por K.O. técnico porque, según me cuenta mi madre, más de una vez tuvo que dejar de ir a trabajar porque no se tenía en pie de la melopea.

    Soy, por mi edad, de la generación de la quina san Clemente, Remedio al parecer infalible, para abrirme el apetito.,
    De aquella época, en la que los niños también tomaban café, algo impensable en nuestros días. Ese café, (con leche, eso sí…) disimulado con pan o galletas, que luego tomaba forma en el clásico migote.
    Recuerdo las cervezas, aunque no nos la daban en casa, Sólo nos daban gaseosa La Casera.
    Y recuerdo el paso en aquella época, en la que se cambió la tele en blanco y negro y la cerveza, a la tele en color y se hicieron famosos los «cubalibres», por supuesto en vaso de tubo….
