Quién no ha ensayado alguna vez, sartén en mano, la tortilla a las finas hierbas del Café Orquidea de Lisboa que glosara el Pereira de Tabucci? (cuatro huevos, una cucharada de mostaza de Dijon, orégano y mejorana, por si quiere probar). Y qué decir del circunspecto pero contumaz estilo que exhibe Hércules Poirot para odiar la cocina inglesa? Gran impacto juvenil: descubrir que el capitán Nemo sirve a sus invitados en el Nautilus esperma de ballena. Muchos años después en El campero, en Barbate, Pepe Melero serviría a los mejores chefs de España una piruleta de semen de atún rojo. La literatura gastronómica es en sí misma un género tan antiguo como el mundo. Desde Apicius hasta Bourdain hay un inmenso océano de estilos, miradas y disfrutes. Propuestas en las que, a veces, la gastronomía cataliza una historia y, en otras, la protagoniza. Han surgido personajes inimitables de ese mundo fértil y sabroso. Libros evocadores que invitan a viajar a ciertos lugares, a leer el periódico del día en algunos cafés de Europa y a desear algunos platos y vinos como si el mañana no fuera a llegar.

Pero, a veces, leyendo un libro no declaradamente gastronómico el lector siente un chispazo ante una escena o una descripción que te detiene y te obliga a releer el párrafo. La gastronomía -comer, beber, compartir, disfrutar- es la perfecta argamasa que ensambla diálogos y construye universos poéticos, tiernos, divertidos, melancólicos y sorprendentes. Cada cual haga su selección. Aquí van unas pocas muestras. Microlecturas de verano para perezosos. Eso sí: perezosos, pero con criterio y buen gusto. De nada.
