Javier Arriola, el pescador que explica en youtube los secretos de las especies marinas de Cádiz
Robert Redford le susurraba a los caballos. Hay quien dice que su perro le comprende mejor que las personas; otros meten un cerdo vietnamita en su casa -en vez de honrar una pata del bellotero de la familia, que es el ilustre- , y también existen quienes apadrinan pingüinos. Y después está Javi Arriola, un gaditano de 45 años que lleva 30 dedicado a la pesca, y que le habla a los pescados del litoral de Cádiz. Se entiende con ellos, los distingue como si tuvieran DNI y no hay secreto, de las agallas a la cola, que este buen hombre desconozca. Por si fuera poco, ha saltado a la fama colgando vídeos en youtube contando las peculiaridades de las especies del litoral gaditano. A ve que yo lo vea, se llama el canal, y es lo más hipnótico que he visto desde que Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente nos demostró que el quebrantahuesos es una rapaz con mala leche que destripa a una cabra montesa soltándola desde 200 metros de altura.
Con una didáctica natural, a voz en grito en medio del mar, Javi explica las diferencias entre especies, sus usos y costumbres y todo lo relacionado con esta fauna marina. “El canal empezó porque un hostelero me porfió que el pescado de Conil moría en nieve, Y no es así, muere en agua-nieve en el barco. Y así empecé a grabar vídeos”, explica el pescador, que es piloto de la Marina mercante, licenciado en Náuticas y transporte marítimo. “Yo he hecho una profesión de mi hobby. Yo lo tenía que haber sido es futbolista pero estaba todo el santo día pescando. Mi padre fue el que me dijo que si me iba dedicar a esto comprara un barco y no siguiera con una licencia de pesca deportiva. El mayor furtivo que ha habido en estas costas he sido yo hasta que ahorré mucho para comprarme mi barco”. El Alba Marina, un barco de nueve metros eslora y tres de manga, con 17 años en el mar, al que prestan el nombre las dos hijas de Javi.
El pesquero, con base en el puerto de Conil de la frontera (Cádiz), orienta la jornada de trabajo en función de las mareas y el estado de la mar. Así, a veces bajan hasta el límite con Marruecos o pescan frente a Cádiz o en la costa conileña. El pescado de esa franja goza de gran prestigio: calidad, variedad y tamaño. “Aunque hay cosas que nadie se cree, como que una urta de dos kilos se venda a 30 euros el kilo y la de cinco kilos, a 10 euros el kilo. O que la urta se pague más cara que el bogavante y la langosta”. Cazón, palometa, raya, corvina, morena, congrio, salmonete, dorada, robalo, brótola, borriquetes, pulpos y erizos de hasta un kilo. De todo entra en el palangre o las redes de Javi y sus dos compañeros de tripulación.
Pero en todo el litoral que va desde el Mediterráneo malagueño hasta Cádiz hay un enemigo declarado: el rugulopterix okamurae, más conocida como el alga invasora. Llegó a estas costas adherida al casco de los mercantes asiáticos. Se adaptó rápidamente al ecosistema y se ha reproducido a velocidad de vértigo. Los pescadores están fritos. “Este alga ha llegado para quedarse, Es una pesadilla. Además nos jugamos la vida: cuando pescas y entra alga te la tienes que llevar a puerto, no se puede limpiar tan fácilmente, y no sabes como va a comportarse un barco con 12 toneladas de basura verde esa encima”, explica Javier, quien, para colmo, por cada día que pesca alga tiene uno de inactividad pesquera dedicado a limpiar las redes. Los pescadores creen que el alga se comporta “como las hojas caducas de los árboles” y en mayo se sueltan de la roca y quedan a la deriva. “El verano siempre es lo peor”, afirma el patrón del Alba Marina, quien agrega: “Es un monstruo, no sabemos cómo lidiar con eso”.
En cualquier caso, Arriola ni se arruga ni pierde las ganas de seguir con sus vídeos “para que cuando la gente va un restaurante sepa lo que come”. Saca un hueco en las jornadas maratonianas de pesca para grabarse en la cubierta del barco. Cosas de este pescador piloto de la marina mercante, que quiso ser futbolista y que ha alcanzado la cima demostrando un conocimiento enciclopédico sobre las especies marinas. Manuel Rivas escribió un artículo espectacular: Olas vagabundas, lo más hermoso que se ha escrito sobre el mar junto a El Espejo del Mar de Conrad y Moby Dick. Rivas habla del capitán Xosé Iglesias, nacido en Cee (Costa da morte), quien llegó a la conclusión de que un barco de pesca es una de las dos mejores construcciones humanas. La otra, dijo, es la poesía. Javi Arriola hace poesía a su manera, sin rimas ni medidas canónicas. Y como el capitán gallego, seguro que en su pila bautismal había agua de mar.
Javi es un gran profesional, conocedor de su arte y con grandes habilidades… Ésto sus habilidades y su sincera personalidad lo diferencian de lo natural. Me alegro muchísimo que otras personas puedan disfrutar de tus vivencias.
